ΡΕΜΠΕΤΙΚΟ ΧΩΡΙΣ ΣΥΝΟΡΑ

Η Αμερική και κυρίως η Νέα Υόρκη έπαιξε μεγάλο ρόλο στην ιστορία του ρεμπέτικου, καθώς οι πρώτες ηχογραφήσεις με μπουζούκι έγιναν εδώ, ταξίδεψαν πίσω στην Ελλάδα και συνέβαλαν στην εξέλιξη του ρεμπέτικου. Υπήρχαν πολλοί σημαντικοί μουσικοί της ομογένειας που δημιούργησαν τα δικά τους ρεμπέτικα τραγούδια και μας άφησαν για κληρονομιά τα «ρεμπέτικα της Αμερικής». Όμως και πολλοί μουσικοί από την Ελλάδα συχνά επισκέπτονταν και έφερναν ακούσματα από την πατρίδα στις ελληνικές κοινότητες.

Όπως και οι άνθρωποι που το δημιούργησαν, το ρεμπέτικο έχει περάσει από πολλές δοκιμασίες: αγαπήθηκε και αγκαλιάστηκε, διώχθηκε και απαγορεύτηκε από αυταρχικές κυβερνήσεις, πέρασε στο περιθώριο για δεκαετίες, αλλά εξακολούθησε να έχει αφοσιωμένους λάτρεις. Τα τελευταία 20 χρόνια το ρεμπέτικο έχει αποκτήσει μεγάλη απήχηση ανάμεσα στους νέους εντός και εκτός Ελλάδας. Πρόσφατα η UNESCO αναγνώρισε το ρεμπέτικο ως μέρος της άυλης παγκόσμιας κληρονομιάς.

REMBETIKO WITHOUT BORDERS

The US, especially New York, has played an important role in the history of rembetiko. The first recordings with bouzouki were made here and traveled back to Greece, contributing to the evolution of rembetiko. There were numerous important musicians from the Greek-American communities that wrote their own rembetika songs and have left us an enormous legacy, “rembetika of America.” In addition, musicians from Greece often visited the Greek-American communities, bringing with them the sounds of the homeland.

Like the people that created it, rembetiko has survived trials and tribulations: it was loved and embraced, persecuted and banned by authoritarian governments and marginalized for decades, but retained a dedicated following. In the last 20 years, rembetiko has gained a substantial young audience inside and outside Greece. Recently, UNESCO recognized rembetiko as part of the world’s intangible heritage.

Προγραμματίζεται εκδήλωση για τα 50 χρόνια του ΚΕΠ με ιστορική αναφορά και οπτικοακουστικό υλικό που θα κάνει ένας από τους πρωτεργάτες. Θα ανακοινωθούν λεπτομέρειες.

An event is being planned for the 50th anniversary of GCC with historical reference and audiovisual material to be made by one of the pioneers. Details will be announced.
